Hispanic Heritage Month : home

Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana: September 15-October 15

Why does Hispanic Heritage Month start in the middle of September?

Hispanic Heritage Month starts in mid-September -- and it’s for a symbolic reason.

Many Central American countries declared their independence September 15 with Mexico and Chile celebrating their independence days on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18, respectively. Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes all of those independence days as they paved the way for the United States to interact with the individual nations in a new way.
