Virtual visit of the Stonewall National Monument
with a National Park Service ranger
Thursday, October 13 at 1 PM (30 minutes in length)
Heaton 232
(The visit will also be streamed via Microsoft Teams-the link will be sent out at a later date)
The Stonewall Inn, a gay bar located in New York City’s Greenwich Village neighborhood, was the scene of an uprising in June of 1969 against police repression that led to a key turning point in the struggle for the civil rights of LGBTQ+ Americans. Many consider the Stonewall Inn to be the birthplace of the modern gay rights movement. In 2016 President Obama declared that the Stonewall Inn would be recognized as a national monument, the first in the National Park System to be dedicated to LGBTQ+ Americans.
We hope you can join us on this virtual visit to Manhattan and go on a “tour” with us of one of the country’s newest yet most significant historical sites in honor of BC3’s commemorating of LGBTQ+ History Month.
