EBSCOhost's Military & Government Collection database offers current news pertaining to all branches of the military and government, this database offers a thorough collection of periodicals, academic journals, and other content pertinent to the increasing needs of those sites. The Military & Government Collection provides cover-to-cover full text for nearly 300 journals and periodicals and indexing and abstracts for more than 400 titles.

EBSCOhost's MasterFILE Premier database is designed specifically for public libraries. Indexes primarily popular and news magazines.

Academic Search Premier This link opens in a new window
Collection of academic, peer reviewed, research journals as well as some popular magazines.

Newsbank This link opens in a new window
Full text articles from over 800 U.S. newspapers including local newspapers like the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Butler Eagle.

Credo Reference This link opens in a new window
Credo Reference provides Topic Pages, which offer background information on a particular topic that can give you an easy starting point and pathways for further research; Access to hundreds of in-depth subject encyclopedias and handbooks covering every major subject from Accounting to Art History and Shakespeare to Einstein; and Mind Maps that visually show relationships between topics and keywords.

Google Scholar includes both books and articles. Be careful when selecting that the source is reputable. If an article is not made freely available online, remember that you can use the BC3 Library's Request an Article service to request it and we will do our best to obtain it and email it to you - free of charge.

BC3 students and employees can sign up for free access to the New York Times through Butler County Community College's NYT Academic Pass Subscription.
1. Go to http://www.accessnyt.com
2. Search for Butler County Community College from the list of institutions
3. You MUST use your BC3 email when setting up your NYT account
4. You will need to re-register for the NYT annually

Locating Government Books

The BC3 Library has both print and electronic books that can help you learn about government and related topics. They are all listed in the BC3 Library Catalog where you will find Dewey call numbers to locate books on the shelves (lower level of the library) and links to connect you to e-books. E-books can also be searched separately in our two e-book collections: e-Book Central by Proquest and e-Book Collection by EBSCO.

Browsing the Stacks

Books about government can be found in the 320 area of the shelves. Other topics related to government, such as law, public administration, economics and more, are located throughout the 300s section of the library.
