About the speaker-Dr. Cindy LaCom

About the speaker-Dr. Cindy LaCom

Cindy LaCom is the Director of Gender Studies at Slippery Rock University and a teacher and scholar in the field of Disability Studies.  Issues of embodiment and structural privilege and bias inform her pedagogy and social justice advocacy within intersectional contexts.  She centers the impacts of ableism in her work as a member of the Elsinore Bennu Think Tank on restorative justice and has made the twin issues of disability and homelessness part of her work as a board member with the Western PA Continuums of Care.  Despite protections under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, our students continue to face environmental and cultural barriers, and she believes that collectively, we can change that.
